Injectable Hyaluronic Acid (HA) filler and neurotoxin (what people commonly refer to as “Botox”) are both popular and highly effective cosmetic treatments. Both HA filler and neurotoxin (when used properly) can help combat signs of aging and give patients a more youthful appearance. However, HA filler and neurotoxin injections are made of different ingredients which work in completely different ways to combat symptoms of an aging face. In this post, we want to talk about neurotoxin injectables.
Neurotoxins have been safely used for decades as an anti-aging treatment and are sold under the brand names Xeomin, Dysport, and Botox Cosmetic. Neurotoxins are made from the purified form of the botulinum toxin. Xeomin, Dysport, and Botox Cosmetic are all made from botulinum toxin Type A. This ingredient, in small doses, can be used to block nerve signals, thus, temporarily “freezing” the muscle injected. As the movement of the muscle is limited, dynamic wrinkles can be reduced, softened, or even removed.
Neurotoxin injectables can be used to treat a variety of concerns such as lines across the forehead, creases between the brows, crows feet, smoker lines, and other dynamic wrinkles caused by facial movements such as smiling, smoking, squinting, frowning, and other facial expressions. After injection, patient results can be seen within just days and can last up to four months, though results vary from patient to patient.
The three neurotoxin injectable products offered by Wise Aesthetics all have slight differences because of the way each is formulated. Botox Cosmetic is formulated with an accompanying protein, Dysport contains a smaller version of a similar protein, and Xeomin doesn’t contain an accompanying protein at all. Because of these slight differences, it is important to have an experienced injector who can recommend the best injectable product and dosage with a goal in mind.
How many units of neurotoxin will you need?
The graphic to the left portrays the “average” number of units/doses injected of Botox Cosmetic & Dysport per area. These numbers vary from patient to patient.
Wise Aesthetics injectors take into consideration a wide variety of factors when selecting injectable treatments for patients including the anatomical processes and structures behind an aging face, your individual anatomy and skin type, your medical aesthetics goals, and a number of other correlating factors necessary to safely and effectively provide natural-looking results to patients.
